Billy Rhodes

Billy Wayne (Bill) Rhodes, 83, of Denver Colorado, passed away on October 6th, 2018. A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on October 27th, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Artesia, New Mexico. Joseph Tillery will be officiating. Cremation has taken place. Bill was born in Comanche, Oklahoma on September 5th, 1935. He graduated from Comanche High School in 1953. He started his college years at the University of Oklahoma on a football scholarship. He finished his undergraduate education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Bill moved his young family to Artesia, New Mexico in 1965 from Weatherford, Oklahoma. Bill loved his time in Artesia and called it his home until September 13, 2018. Bill was married to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Dunlap, on April 1st, 1955. They were married 63 wonderful years. Bill worked as a school administrator, teacher, and coach for 36 years. He was a dedicated follower of Artesia High School and University of Oklahoma sports. Bill loved quail hunting with his dear friends. Most of all Bill enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandson and friends. He felt blessed by them all. Bill was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Artesia. He was dedicated to worshiping his Savior and shared HIS love with others. He treasured his fellow church members and particularly the past and present members of his Sunday school class. Bill is survived by his wife Dorothy, his children; Lisa Rhodes Bohannon and husband, Dale, Tobin (Toby) Rhodes and his wife, Tracy, and Jill Rhodes Finley and her husband, Royce, his grandchildren; Kacy Kinder, Kirstie Rhodes Markowski and her husband, Kyle, Connor Finley, and Hanson Finley and great grandson Klai Kinder and his mother, Michelle. Bill is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Frank Rhodes, his mother, Lillie Rhodes, his brother, J.R. Rhodes and his sister, Louise Rhodes Bailey. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda. org), the American Heart Association (www.heart.org), or the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home (www. nmbch.com).
