By Austin Smith
The Hennessey High School basketball teams wrapped up the regular season last week with a pair of games against the Thomas Terriers and the Chisholm Longhorns. The boys ended the season ranked sixth in Class 2A with a record of 20-2 after defeating both Thomas and Chisholm, while the ladies split their final two games to finish 7-15.
The Lady Eagles started the week on Tuesday with a thrilling, come-from-behind victory over Thomas. After the Lady Terriers doubled up Hennessey in the first quarter 20-10, Hennessey got their rhythm in the second.
Five different players scored in the second frame alone, led by Kassidy Amburn with four of her teamhigh 13 points. The defense also stepped allowing six points in the quarter, and it didn’t stop there.
Coming out of the half, the Lady Eagles held Thomas to single-digits for the secondstraight frame, and just like that Hennessey entered the fourth with a one-point lead. From there, Amburn once again led the charge with seven points in the final quarter to help seal the 49-44 victory.
