Eagles preparing for old-fashioned

battle in the trenches with Newkirk

The Eagles needed to close out the regular season with a three-game win streak to give themselves a shot at making the playoffs, and this Friday they will meet a Newkirk team that is in a similar situation. Both teams currently sit at 2-3 in the district, and a loss for either one would end their chances of making the postseason.

For the Eagles, just as it seemed they were getting to full strength, Coach Rick Luetjen and Hennessey lost senior Dalton Joyce to a broken leg. Still, the Eagles have had to compensate for injuries all season long, and while Joyce will be irreplaceable on the field, the guys filling in for him have gotten plenty of experience throughout the season.

“We have had a lot of experience with that this year,” said Luetjen. “We’ve lost a lot of guys and had players step up. We have had that happen on the line so we are comfortable with who we are playing in Dalton’s place.”
