Eagles rise to No. 2 in the rankings Girls drop rematch to Crescent

The Hennessey High School basketball teams returned to the hardwood last Friday as they traveled to Crescent for their first action since the Winter Break. While the girls struggled in their return to action with a 58-46 loss, the boys survived a late rally by the Tigers to win 55-51 and stay unbeaten.

Coach Haylie Simunek’s Lady Eagles were able to muster some momentum prior to the break, winning two out of their three games prior to Christmas, but unfortunately it didn’t carry over to the new year. Crescent got out to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter in a performance similar to the two teams’ meeting back in early December.

In that contest, Hennessey was able to climb back into the game, and cut the lead to five in the fourth quarter before the Lady Tigers were able to pull away for an 11-point victory. On Friday, the Lady Eagles did cut into the lead but nine was as close as they were able to get, eventually falling by 12.
