Hennessey Hosts Speech and Debate Tournament
Hennessey High School welcomed twelve other schools Jan. 11 and 12 for its fourth annual forensics tournament. Approximately 90 students participated in competitions that included such topics as acting, speaking and debate.
Students from Alva, Bethany and Chisholm participated in class 4A, and Arnett, Crescent, Fairview, Freedom, Navajo, Okarche, Okeene and Shattuck competed along with Hennessey in class 3A.
Hennessey speech and debate teacher/coach, Linda Soudek, explained the various divisions of the competition.
"We have 12 schools competing in four different divisions," said Soudek. "We have class 3A for the smallest schools, class 4A for the larger schools, novice division, which is for first year competitors and then a champ division which is more experienced kids that have already been to a tournament and qualified their events. Fourteen different events."
Among those participating for Hennessey High School was 17-year-old Senior, Dakota Davis, competing for his fourth year. He discussed speech and debate, the tournaments, and what he got out of participating.
