During the kickoff party, Thursday, May 30, children got to meet some alien-like creatures. They were able to touch and feel animals such as lizards and an armadillo. Over 75 people attended the party, with over 50 kids register on that day for the summer reading program.

June 3 brought the Mission to Mercury with Astronomer Joe Malan. Each Monday for nine weeks, Malan will continue to take patrons throughout the solar system, visiting each planet in turn, including the demoted Pluto.

Additional activities included Tween Game Night for ages nine through 12, Friday, June 7. June 11 allowed children to “Explore the Eclipse with Leonardo’s.”

Ruth Ann Replogle reported that the library’s summer events are not limited to the space-themed summer reading program.
