Trump should not be impeached
Saddled Up on the Trail
In over 243 years of our nation’s history only two of our 45 elected Presidents have been impeached.
Andrew Johnson assumed the presidency after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln at the conclusion of the Civil War. Johnson wanted quick restoration of the seceded southern states back into the union. The majority Republican Congress disagreed so they impeached Johnson. Johnson was acquitted in the Senate by one vote.
President Bill Clinton was impeached by a partisan 221-212 vote of the House of Representatives for obstruction of justice over his testimony about having an illicit relationship with a White House intern. Clinton was acquitted in the Senate by a 55 to 45 vote.
