William Franklin “Bill” Gritz
Memorial service for William Franklin “Bill” Gritz, 84 will be at 11:00 AM Saturday January 19, 2019 at First Baptist Church officiated by Jimmy Berkenbile and Kirk Sutton. Cremation arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.
Bill was born Northwest of Hennessey on March 25, 1934 to Charles William Franklin “Frank’ and Eva Effie Ricks Gritz and died Friday January 11, 2019 at Hennessey Care Center. Bill was the youngest of eight children.
He attended Hennessey Public Schools to the tenth grade. Bill married Dorothy Brown in Kingfisher on May 2, 1956. He served in the U. S. Army from 1956-1962 and was in Germany for eighteen months. He was a gunner and drove executive officers. Bill earned the good conduct medal while in the military.
Bill farmed, drove a truck for Hennessey Ready Mix, and was a carpenter.
He is survived by two daughters Sally McCartney, Wilma Bohnstedt and husband Rick; one son William J. “Billy” Gritz, all of Hennessey; seven grandchildren Susan McCartney, Marsha Morgan and husband James, Ryan Bohnstedt, Jason Franklin, Stacie Wood and husband Steven, Maegan McCullough and husband Dillion, Stephani Lim, and twelve greatgrandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; two daughters Susan Shaw and Nancy Franklin; his son-in-law Keith McCartney; three brothers Clarence Gritz, Raymond Gritz, Gene Gritz, and four sisters Letha Dixon, Faye Bybee, Gladys Silver, and Dorothy Steele.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested donations may be made in Bill’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
